Dear Deb

I wrote this little letter for a past client that recently passed from a long fight with cancer. She was autistic. She was non verbal. She was a gem. Maybe you have a Deb in your life and maybe you have similar thoughts. Enjoy.
Dear Deb,
I came into this work thinking I wanted to help people. I came into this work not really knowing what it was all about. I think many of us whether we intend to or not, put a separation between “you and us”. Many of us, myself included, have had this illusion that “they need us” or “we have so many things to offer “them”. The honest truth is Deb, this world could sure afford to be more like you. You have taught me how to slow down. You have taught me to stand up for myself more. You have taught me how to be less judgmental. You tell people with your eyes how you feel about them, and I really have only ever seen love and acceptance from you. I hope to be better with my own boundaries because of you. There aren’t many people who have had the gift of knowing you, and I am beyond thankful I got to. I know everyone that got to be in your life is better off because of it. I hope we have done the same in your life. You were a rare gem in this world that can be so dark. Thank you for adding light to ours. We love you.
